Life In Lumber Y4, W5

 Day 21:  $4,811 (and 82 cents)

Arrived and did my LU, since I was 5 mins early.  Was dismayed to find ASM K closing, but was determined not to let it get me down.  Gathered paperwork and did the soda count; started ringing up customers. At 7, things slacked off, so began my AP4Me.  Was halfway done when I got a customer....and a Pro customer needed ASM K.  I finished with my customer, then did my final quiz.  K finishes with hers, then says to me, "Do you remember the conversation we had about keeping these two registers free for Pro customers?"

"Yes, I do." I finished my quiz and checked my status; I've moved up to #22.

"Okay."

I seethed inwardly, because there was NO ONE AROUND WHEN I STARTED!!!!!

I swept the floor and gathered the trash, then Kelly relieved me for break.  After I returned, I sanitized Reg #2 and 3, and the counters, put away the soda, and dragged in the carts from the sidewalk.

Earlier, a customer had hit the doors with a tub, and knocked it off the track.  We couldn't get them working properly, so put a note on the door.  When I returned from break, they were working again.

Needed two o/r:  One for discounted carpet and another for $20 off a hot water heater.

Think I finished my Rock Star story!!

ASM K cleaned me out; I took the trash to the hopper, then returned items to Electrical and ductwork.

Oh, we also lost a $1K sale:  Customer was going to buy $1000 in wire, but couldn't find anyone to help him.  He and I had a chat about the difference between the hardware stores in town, and how ours is very lacking in customer service in the evenings.

Clocked out at 10:11.

Outfit:  Gray/white striped sweater, new dark jeggings, LJs, thick silver hoops

Day 22:  $9,508 (and 68 cents)

Arrived; discovered B had called in and our plexiglass is gone!!!!!  Took over for Kenzie, and discovered ASM K was off:)  Did soda count and prelim duties, gathered trash, and swept.  Was a nice, slower-paced shift, and did my LU without any complaints (lol!).

After HC J cleaned me out, I took the trash to the hopper and put up my vest.  Clocked out at 10:20.  Dare I hope tomorrow goes as well????

Outfit:  Brown sweater, new dark jeggings, LJs, thick silver hoops.

Day 23:  $10,667 (and 2 cents)

Arrived to find B had called in again, and so did Loader Al and K.  Jean from LG showed up for 90 minutes, thankfully, since we had several demands for loaders!  Also discovered Liv had already done the soda count and ASM K had the day off!  Did my other prelim duties and was very busy until 7. Put away the soda, and was sent to lunch at 8.  When I came back, swept and pulled trash, then sanitized the counters.  After HC H cleaned me out, I took the trash to the hopper and returned items to Paint and Hardware.  Clocked out at 10:30.

Outfit:  Blue/white striped sweater, new faded jeggings, LJs, thick silver hoops.

Day 24:  Rare Sunday $19,706 (and 86 cents)

Arrived and immediately began ringing up customers.  Was busy all the way until I went to lunch at 3 (McAs). I came back at 4 and did the soda count before we got busy again.  Em took her 2nd break, and Liv came down and finished the soda count, then brought it to me.  I took my last break at 5:30, after ringing up 2 customers for drywall.  One for 50 sheets of 8 ft, and 14 sheets of 12 ft.  Loader K finally got the 1st customer loaded, but we couldn't find the second.  Saw Chet and Marlene, who bought a copy of Rex. After Em left, I did the closing duties, my LU, and swept. Locked the doors at 8, and returned items to Hardware, Tools, Lighting, and Electrical..

Clocked out at 8:30.

Outfit:  Home Grown sweatshirt, black jeans, LJs, and thin silver hoops.

Life in Lumber Y4, W4

 Day 16:  $5,636 (and 76 cents)

Arrived to find Loader M painting the counters, so had to be on #2 for about an hour.  1st couple of customers were routine, then one told me he had an invoice.  Okay, found it. Verified pick up date, and then a new screen popped up.  Called HC J to see what to do; she didn't know, so while she dealt with that, I hopped over to J's register to ring up any customer paying with a card. Customer finally said they would pay for everything but the invoice, while cabinets researched the issue, and he was out the door.  I was finally able to pop over to #1, and things went smooth until another customer came up with discounted items....only one wasn't discounted. ASM K and another associate went back to check, and reported no.  The customer persisted, and went back to get the price tag.  Turned out, it WAS the same item #, so called HC H down for an o/r, then held onto the tag so I could show ASM N, should it be brought to question.  He thanked me for showing it to him. and said he knew who had checked it.  ASM K ticked me off mildly when I was ringing up a customer, and she said, "Receipt."  I almost replied, "Yep, it's a reciept all right!", but checked myself.  She was leaving, which meant my night was about to get a lot better!

Pulled trash, did my LU and AP4Me, and went to break at 8.  Came back and swept for an hour, then wiped down the counters, including the corner one. It rained during the entire shift, so exercised my right not to bring in any carts from the sidewalk.  Loader N got his forklift license, so set the safety pallets and brought in the concrete at 9:30.  HC H cleaned me out a little after ten, and clocked out at 10:15.

Found out District Mgr is arriving on Thursday, so will probably have to do some extra cleaning tomorrow!

Outfit:  Teal LS shirt, faded jeggings, thick gold hoops.

Day 17:  $13,193 (and 72 cents)-WHAT????

1st of all, I didn't think I had that many $1+K sales, or was that busy.  That blows my mind...on a WEDNESDAY???

Anyway, arrived and took over for B on #3, since 1 had shut down and 2's counter was freshly painted.  I didn't move to #2 for an hour, and even when I did, still had to use #3, due to customers holding up the line for an o/r, or 'I just need to grab one more thing...'

Went to lunch at 7 and when I came back, Cait was upset because her ex's parents, for whatever reason (she broke up with their son and Mommy Dearest apparently went psycho and burned Cait's clothing and other belongings), had been sitting in their car outside her apartment, then followed her to work.  Cait was shaking, so I went up front to make sure she told ASM N about it.  No word if anything transpired. Pulled trash and began sweeping.  #2's pinpad did something weird, so was on #3 while ASM N fixed it.  He rebooted #1 and got it reworking, so moved over around 8. Cleaned off the corner counter again, where Loader M had been standing and painting.

Activated the door from #2, and the button got stuck.  Brandon W came down and took it apart, then put up a sign not to use it, after joking with me about not knowing my own strength!

Loader N set the safety pallets and brought in the concrete at 9:45, then I locked the doors.  HC H cleaned me out at 10; I took the trash to the hopper, then relocked the door after letting N out.  Returned items to Lighting, Flooring, and Hardware, then put up my vest.  Clocked out at 10:20.

Tomorrow, visit from Corporate.

Outfit:  Brown shirt, faded jeggings, thick gold hoops.

Day 18:  $$5,529 (and 78 cents)

Arrived and even before I got to Lumber, I heard ASM K's voice.  Sigh....okay, I got this.  Discovered she was leaving at 6:30....yay!  (I know, wrong attitude.  But I cannot do anything RIGHT with her in the vicinity....okay, okay, I'll do better to change my attitude.)  Took over for B and discovered the entire Pro area had reverted to HS-like tactics/attitude (so it's not JUST me??)....S refused to paint with Matt and was hauled into the office for a chat with Steve; C, K, and J were whining about whatever.  Discovered Kim M broke my broom; she went to use it and it snapped. (RIP Broom)

You know you've worked somewhere a long time when you get attached to your cleaning implements...

Had a customer come to the desk with a list; I called ASM K, then told her 'never mind', because I thought it was lumber, and Loader M could pull it.  Then found out it was FLOORING, so called her back, only get my head snapped off (figuratively) with a 'I can't now; I've got a door open...she'll just have to wait."  M called her to see about pulling some of it, and she was nicer to him. *eye roll*

I shut off our promo TV at 6:30.

In my defence....the customer left to go find another item; K tosses down her pen and says, "Girl, I can't take much more of her."  I walked over to tell her my good news about daughter getting married, but all I got from her was an eye roll and a shake of the head.  Okayyyyy....you tell me who has the better people skills????  I acknowledge she and I have a major personality clash, one that may or may not ever find common ground.  I HONESTLY HAVE TRIED!!!!  Then, she had to have ASM N refund/rebill two items, due to not being in stock, then I heard her complain about 'So much going on right now!'  Welcome to my world some shifts!

After she left at 6:30, things settled down.  I did the soda count, pulled trash, and other prelim duties, and did my LU.  Began sweeping, then Joe F arrived for his order.  I pulled up his invoice, loaded his LAR, and printed his ticket, then had to find the other order.  Finally found it, but had issues printing it, so called ASM N down.  Turns out all I had to do was put a 'P' by the order, not 'S'.  *head slap*

Brenda sent me to break at 8, and since I discovered Val had left her wallet in the bathroom, returned it to her 1st, before heading back.  She was very appreciative!

Finished sweeping and ringing up customers, cleaned the register counters, filled the soda, and helped Emma fill the snacks. Final customer was at 9:45, and just after I rang up all 3 carts, discovered my register had shut itself off.  Signed back in and rang it all up again (touch screen does this if you've been inactive 15 or so minutes....very annoying!).  Loader N left at 10, and said the forklift outside wouldn't start, and he'd seen C not set the safety pallets before.  Oooookaaaaay.... HC J cleaned me out while I took the trash down, then ASM N asked if I'd take a cart back to RTM and trash.  So I put up my vest, grabbed the cart, and did that, then clocked out at 10:20.

Outfit:  Gray hooded sweatshirt, faded jeggings, LJs, thick gold hoops

Day 19:  Rare Saturday (final one for at least a month!) $19,901 (and 30 cents)

Arrived to find a couple needing help with drywall; walked up and asked Em who our loader was.  AW had called in; AM was around somewhere.  I asked ASM K where AM was..."He's WORKING; he hasn't even had a lunch yet."  I said okay, and told her about the couple.  "Okay." And she went on doing whatever she was doing.

When she left a few mins later, Em looked at me and said there was NO REASON for her to be snippy with me; it was a perfectly logical question.  Whatever....Later, we weren't very busy, and K asked one of us if we'd sweep under the lumber bins.  I jumped at the chance, and swept nearly the entire right side, as well as ringing up customers.

Em left at 3, and I realized I'd not taken my break.  4 came....then 5.....finally at 5:30, Liv came down.  I logged off and went to collect my coat and book, then went to the restroom. I'd heard K say there was to be nothing behind or in front of the desk; I had a customer who was returning for the rest of his lumber, so I put a sticker on it and had him park it in the aisle.  Told Loader AL about it; K told me it should be behind the desk!  Can I not do ANYTHING right by her????

Clocked out for lunch at 5:50, and went to Subway.  Returned an hour later and started the closing duties. Checked out an insulation machine for a customer and put the date as 2066!  Geez.... Swept the floor and sanitized the counters.  Liv sent me to break at 8:45, and when I returned, pulled trash, did LU, and swept the mats.  HC C cleaned me out; Loader Al took my trash to the hopper; I returned an item to Electrical, then put up my vest.  Pushed two carts to LG, then clocked out at 10:30.

Found out Darrin was fired, due to missing too much work.  The man had a heart attack last summer!  Geez....what about Jill's call ins, with her cancer treatment???

Theresa B (D's cousin) officially retired!

Outfit:  Blue crewneck Cabella's sweatshirt, new dark jeggings, LJs, large zirconian studs.

Day 20: Rare Sunday (think there's one or two for April) $12,985 (and 78 cents)

Arrived and began ringing up customers. Things went smoothly; ASM K went to lunch; I took my break, then Em went to lunch. Needed an o/r for paint, and when K returned, she needed two temp cards printed.  I was able to do the 1st, but not the second, due to too many customers in line, so ASM N came down to do it.  I went to lunch (McAs) at 3, and when I returned, did the soda count.  K left after I came back, and at 6, Em left, so I hopped over to #1 and started the closing duties.  HC J brought down the soda; I put it away and swept. At 7:45, had a customer tell me she thought we closed at 10; I told her only M-Sat. Locked the doors at 8, took the trash down while HC J was cleaning me out, and put up my vest. Clocked out at 8:25.

Outfit:  Bless this Mess sweatshirt, new dark jeggings, LJs, thin gold hoops.

I'm off until Tuesday!!

Life In Lumber Y4, W3

 Day 12:  $3,167 (and 26 cents!)

Arrived and realized I'd left my phone at home.  Told ASM N what was going on, and clocked in at 5:15.  Took over for B, and my 5th customer had an expired LBA, so got him approved for another one....but then couldn't find the temporary one.  ASM N was down, trying to get #2 to work, so he took over the customer while I dealt with the line on #3.  He finally got the customer paid, and I went back to #1, and began the prelim duties.  Got the soda count finished by 6:30. Was busy with customers until 7:30, then started to do my LU when Marilyn came down and sent me to break.  Afterward, I swept the floor, did LU and AP4Me, and at 9pm, began sanitizing the registers and the counters. Cody C came in and bought a copy of Rex, and my final customer was at 9:30.  Locked the doors at 9:50 and sent Loader AW down with the trash.  HC M cleaned me out at 10, and clocked out at 10:20.

Fairly certain I had a customer not pay for concrete...unless he paid for it up at CS.  He told me he wanted 3 bags of concrete and 3 bags of Silica sand.  I rang it up, but apparently we had neither on hand.  I sent him to CS for a refund, but he never came back with his replacement concrete to pay for it.

Tomorrow is HC M's final day; I'm going to bring her some 'adult' cupcakes (alcohol instead of water).  She's moving north of Tampa, Fl

Outfit:  Blue palm tree sweatshirt, dark jeggings, gold and diamond hoops.

Day 13:  $7,611

Arrived and took over for B.  Did soda count and prelim duties; went to break at 7:30.  Came back and started doing the closing duties.  Pulled trash and swept, then at 9, did my LU and my refresher course in aisle spotting, blockers, etc.  Rang up final customer at 9:45, and locked the doors at 10.  When HC J arrived to clean me out, I handed her the tax exempts and loading tickets, then took the trash to the hopper.  Clocked out at 10:15 and discovered I am tied with ASM N and Kelly for credit apps (3 each for the week).

Outfit:  Black tunic, yellow plaid vest, dark jeggings, gold and diamond hoops.

Day 14:  $5,690

Arrived and as I was checking my email, a guy asked if he was in the right place for an interview.  I said yes, and that I would try to get ahold of someone, to tell them he was there.  Found out ASM K was closing, but no answer.  Tried CS; no answer.  Zach was getting ready to leave the break room, so asked him to stop by CS to tell an ASM about the interviewee.  I clocked in and went to lumber as ASM K was leaving the area.  Asked if she was conducting an interview, to which she snapped, "that's where I'm headed!"  Gee....is my head still attached???

Took over for B and had to contact K two more times.  Once for a Pro customer, and another for a cull pack customer, who wanted to pick it up tomorrow (it was raining).  Otherwise, she stayed away from me.  Had to have a couple of o/r:  One for a door, one for a discounted toilet, and one for a price match, which ended not being approved.  Turns out we don't price match Amazon....

Did the prelim duties and put away the soda around 7.  Went to lunch at 7:45, and afterward, pulled trash, swept, brought in carts, and sanitized the registers.  Checked out final customer at 9:50.  Also saw friend Angela and her new man, Kyle.

After HC C cleaned me out, locked the doors, took the trash to the hopper, and clocked out at 10:20.

Outfit:  Lavander striped sweater, faded jeggings, diamond and gold hoops.

Day 15:  Rare Saturday  $19,011 (and 4 cents!)

Arrived; did my LU, then clocked in. Was on #2 until 3, when Liv went home.  Took my 1st break at 2:30. Had to do a cull pack, and ASM K tried to find it under a phone #, but it didn't work.  I rang it up my way, and it worked w/o needing an o/r.  Was sent to lunch at 4:30 (Cait relieved me; I went to McAs) and when I returned, did the soda count, only to discover we'd had 10 call ins, so we weren't doing it.  Fine by me!  We were mildly slammed between 6-7; had a woman with a door with a ding in it, and when she got it in her truck, she found another one.  K was dealing with another cull pack, so I politely asked her to wait until K was finished.  K told her to go to CS, and do a refund/rebill. Things slowed after that, and was able to sweep, pull trash, and sanitize both registers and counters.  Loader K got his forklift license, so set the safety pallets.   I locked the doors at 9:55.  Took the trash to the hopper after HC A cleaned me out.

Clocked out at 10:15.

Outfit:  Mama Bear sweatshirt, faded jeggings, LJs, textured gold hoops

Off the next two days!

Life In Lumber Y4, W2

Day 7:  $4,606 (and 2 cents!)  NO MORE MASKS!!!!!!!!!

Arrived and bought a bag of Chex mix, then went to Lumber.  Things were MUCH slower tonight; think it's because the temps dropped back into the 40s. Was busy for the first fifteen minutes, then did the soda count and the prelim duties.....and began sweeping.  Went to lunch at 7:30, and only needed 3 o/r:  One for a price-matched table saw; one for a microwave; and the third one for a door.  Pulled trash, brought in the carts off the sidewalk; did my LU and AP4Me.  Locked the doors at 9 and brought in the cull pack, walked HC M to the front, then tossed the trash, helped Loader AW put some discounted drywall on top of the cull pack, and put up my vest.  Didn't wear the back brace at all, and felt pretty good.

Outfit:  Blue hooded Cabela's sweatshirt, dark jeggings. Forgot my hearing aids and my earrings.

Day 8:  $4,898

Arrived and took over for B.  Was fairly steady, but did manage to get the soda count done AND put away by 7:30. Did the prelim duties, and went to break at 7:30.  After, pulled trash and swept, then sanitized the registers and counters of #1-3.  Locked the doors at 9, walked HC M to  the front, then took the trash back before putting up my vest.

Witnessed sticker shock:  My final customer came in for plumbing parts, and it rang up $63.  He was dumbfounded; I showed him the cost, and asked what he wanted me to take off.  "All of it.  Some of those were only 49 cents last week!"

Clocked out at 9:20.

Outfit:  Gray/leopard LS shirt, dark jeggings, blue and silver sapphire hoops, LJs.

Day 9:  $5,216

Arrived and took over for B, then did the soda count and other prelim duties.  Needed one o/r for a discounted door, and had to call for 1s, 5s, and 10s.  Kelly relieved me at 7:30 for break; I swept the area thoroughly, including under all the mats, including #2 and 3. ASM N and HC A came down before 9 and told me to go ahead and lock the doors; clocked out at 9:15.  Had Loader AW take the trash to the hopper while I put up my vest.

Outfit:  Red turtleneck, black vest, LJs, dark jeggings, blue and silver sapphire hoops.

Day 10:  Rare Saturday $13,338 (and 15 cents!)

Arrived, and began on a strange note:  Clocked in and was told I wasn't supposed to be there til 3, but my schedule said 1!  ASM Jess said she'd fix it.  Arrived in Lumber, and asked Em and Liv who I was taking over for....L said she'd just arrived, and Em had returned from lunch.  HC M came down and sent L to the front, moved E to #2 and told me to be on #1.  Shift went well; I went to break at 2:30, since E was due to leave at 3, and when I returned, Ryan arrived to give me a break.  E 'took her break' while R took over for her:)  Only needed 2 o/r:  One for a door and one for carpet.

I went to lunch (Subway) at 6, and when I came back, started doing the closing duties.  Was told we weren't doing soda count, so shuffled 'em around and pulled 'em forward.  Went to my final break at 8:30, and we didn't have anyone from 9:10 on.  I swept and sanitized, and even locked the doors at 9:45, while E from LG was bringing in the concrete.  HC H cleaned me out and I took the trash down, then put up my vest.  Clocked out at 10:20.

Sold 2 copies of Rex to D. Troyer and 2 copies to ASM Mel.  Was told Cody C wants one and Neil G is going to check with his wife about one:)

Outfit:  Black v-neck tunic, black/white poncho, LJs, dark jeggings, blue and silver sapphire hoops, blue fingerless gloves.

Day 11:  Rare Sunday  $25,922

Arrived and again Kronos told me I was early; was supposed to be there at 1. WTH???  ASM M said she'd fix it.  Was on #2 for 1st half of shift; Emma was returning from break as I arrived; took mine at 12:30 and sent her to lunch at 1.  Was busy for 30 mins, then while I needed an o/r for discounted lumber, hopped on #3 and rang up 3 customers.  ASM G gave me the o/r....then my scanner went down.  HC C changed the battery, but register wouldn't respond.  Stayed on #3, and rebooted #2 3 times....then had Emma unplug it....then the printer malfunctioned.  Shut off printer and continued to use #3 for 15 mins, then tried #2 again with success!  Sent E to break at 2:45, then I went to lunch (McA's) at 3, and D and A showed up.  Returned at 4, and Noah arrived 'to send me to lunch'....told him I'd just gotten back!  Was steady the rest of the night, and Adrienne showed up at 7:30 to break.  W showed up, so put him to work returning items, running carts.and helping Loader AW.  At 8, sent him to the hopper with the trash, then let him out to sit in AW's car.  After HC H cleaned me out, walked her up and put up my vest.  I'd also swept the floor at 7pm.  Clocked out at 8:15.

Outfit:  Maroon 3/4 shirt, black vest, dark jeggings, LJs, blue and silver sapphire hoops, blue fingerless gloves.

Battle of the Brothers-Robert Lacey Loved this book!!!
To Some It's Just A Rose-George Kramer Oh boy....where do I start?  Overall, good story.  However, too many editing errors.  Too many exclamation marks, head-hopping, and stilted conversations.
Chronicals of a Casanove-George Kramer Good story/premise, but had sooooo many editing and formatting errors!  Plus a twist at the end I didn't see coming.
