Ummm...How Old Am I Again?
Currently Reading: I'm up to chapter 5 on Flavia's Secret:) And since we've had some nasty thunder and lightening, I bought Sabrina Jeffries' Never Seduce a Scoundrel. I'm loving it also, and want to get the other books in that series!
Saw on the news yesterday that people are being encouraged to lie about their ages.
Not only in the dating world, but on job applications!
Why?
"The company may see an older person as a liability, instead of experience."
Okay, I get that part. But say a person decides to suddenly shave ten years off their age and applies for a job. What happens when they turn in their resume'? What happens if the employer decides to contact former employees? Google their names? Somewhere, the dates aren't gonna match up.
"But after you're hired, then you can come clean..."
And lose all your credibility? Let's take a look at lying about your age in the dating game.
You meet this terrific guy. You decide, 'hey...I'm over 40...I'll tell him I'm 35.' He buys it; you begin dating. You really connect with him...and suddenly you want to bring him home to meet the family, or even introduce him to your friends. Or, your birthday is coming up.
Do you:
a) Tell your family and friends not to mention your true age?
b) Pull your sweetie aside and 'fess up?
If you decide option A, you're going to be constantly on guard for someone to slip up. If you choose option B, then you run the risk of destroying his trust. Unless you meet someone so perfect they say, "It's okay; I've known for several weeks. I've been waiting for you to come clean."
When I turned 29, I started lying about my age, because thirty seemed old. I didn't want to give up my twenties, so for several years, I stated I was 29, 'with X years of experience'. This backfired when I was 35, because during my annual exam, my dr asked me how old I was. He's only a month older than me, so I replied, "I'm either 35, going to be 36...or 34, turning 35....or 36 tuirning 37? However old you are, that's how old I'll be in two weeks. I've really got to stop lying about my age!"
Another Remake:
Several months ago, I posted I'd heard a remake of Prince's 'Darling Nikki'. Sometimes I actually like remakes, but couldn't the group have picked a better song? Okay, 'Let's Go Crazy', 'Little Red Corvette', '1999', or even 'Cream' would be taboo. There are some songs or artists you just don't mess around with, like Elvis (Anyone remember Cheap Trick's rendition of 'Don't Be Cruel'?) or The Beatles. Elton John. Def Leppard. Styx. REO Speedwagon.
I heard Seether's remake of 'Careless Whisper'. Groan....don't mess with my Wham/George Michael? Now that is a classic! Why didn't they pick another artist/song?
But of course, my daughter likes it. I'll have to dig through storage and play the original for her.
Any remakes you've heard that hurt your eardrums or send you into 'How dare they...' mode? I wonder if my parents felt the same way when 'their' music was recorded by other artists?
And on the flip side, which remakes do you think are better than the original? A few of my faves are 'Locomotion' (the 70's version, although Kylie Minogue's is good too!) and 'Dancing in the Streets'. Loooove Mick Jagger and David Bowie's version!

Character Development
Currently Reading: Flavia's Secret, by Lindsay Townsend. I'm on Chapter 2, and hope to get back to it this afternoon.
This topic came up last night at Laptop Society. A new member has been struggling with different scenes in her character's life, and wanted input on where to go with the adventures.
In the beginning, the character was obviously only interested in having a good time, but as the story progressed, her relationships took on a deeper meaning. The question last night? "I need to decide where I want to go with this."
Our advice: "Show how these relationships have formed her into the woman she's becoming."
It called to mind an interview I read yesterday on the Moonlight Lace Mayhem blog, where the author mentioned the best advice she received was to dig deep into her characters and find their motivation, fears, strengths, etc. Sometimes our characters surprise us; we discover things we never dreamed we would ever consider about that character.
For example, one of my characters loves Dr. Pepper. Another one can't stand seafood. One of my stronger characters is afraid of spiders. So interview your characters; get to know them. And if you're writing an epic love story, show the personal growth. Everyone learns something from everyone they encounter, even if they aren't consciously aware of it.
Website News:
My designer and I have encountered a slight problem with the uploading, and until we get it ironed out, it says 'Under Construction'. I LOVE the new look, but until this glitch is overcome, I won't be able to share it just yet. If anyone can help with suggestions how to upload a Dreamweaver design onto Microsoft Office Live, I'd appreciate any input. Email me off loop at storimom2@aol.com
Freedom!
Hubby returned to work yesterday! Unfortunately, today is W's final day at Head Start. We had an end-of-the-year picnic at a local park, and Papa John's Pizza delivered lunch. The kids had a great time, and I snapped several good pictures of W and his best friend B. Found out B will attend the same elementary school as W next year, so I hope the teachers are ready for their antics!

Mother's Day Recap
After a delicious Mexican lunch (don't laugh at me Reg!), I came home and watched two episodes of the Muppet Show's first season; went to the grocery store; took a nap; washed a load of colors so K could have clean shorts for today. I fixed chicken cordon bleu for dinner, but K did the rest of the meal. He and his dad cleaned up the kitchen.
Today, I need to go price promo items. I need to see how much Office Max is going to charge for cover flats; CD covers; and change the 'Coming Soon' text on my bookmarks to 'Available Now'. I also want to go to the bakery and see about the cost of a cake with the cover design on it, or at least something similar.
I'm still fighting fatigue and coughing spells; I told Travis this would be a good time to schedule another blog interview, as I like the way my voice sounds! But according to my mother, I sound as if there is static; my voice cracks, or breaks up. Neither husky or sexy...told you I need a voice stand-in!
I'm also about to piss off the family and spend more time on the chat loops. I've been away for several months during the editing process, and tried not to get swamped with email. But since it's time to get the word out, I need to re-establish my relationships. Some I've kept up; others I've let fall away.
Yesterday's Indy 500 Qualifiers:
Finishing Row 4:
12. Raphael Matos (2) 223.429
Row 5:
13. Paul Tracy (15) 223.111
14. Vitor Meira (14) 223.054
15. Justin Wilson (18) 222.903
Row 6:
16. Hideki Mutoh (27) 222.805
17. Ed Carpenter (20) 222.780
18. Dan Wheldon (4) 222.777
Row 7:
19. AJ Foyt IV (41) 222.586

21. Sarah Fisher (67) 222.082
Row 8:
22. Davey Hamilton (44) 221.956
Which means...If Sarah Fisher survives the 'bunping' next weekend, I'll have a clear shot of her car on Race Day!
Have a good day; this is also a big week for W...he 'graduates' on Wednesday, and is still doing well with the nighttime potty-training! He was dry all weekend, but damp this morning. We're thinking of getting him some sort of trundle bed, and setting it up in either our bedroom or in front of his toy area, once he gets consistant.

Saturday's Stupid Saying...and a Retraction...
I am tired of all this sort of thing called science here....We have spent millions in that sort of thing for the last few years, and it is time it should be stopped.
-Sen. Simon Cameron, on the Smithsonian Institution, 1861
Aren't you glad he was ignored?
Retraction
Yesterday I posted that come hell or high water, we were going to go north and move some of our old yard equipment to two storage units.
Not happening. Why?
Today is the former neighbor's birthday (Happy Birthday, D!) and his wife was planning to surprise him by taking him to the first day of the Indianapolis 500 time trials! And the wife wants to spend time with me....and we kind of need their trailer to move the lawn tractor! So now it's been rescheduled for NEXT Saturday.
Party Success
A enjoyed her pictures, and I also gave her a copy of Love Finds A Way. A is quiet, and doesn't curse, so I felt the tamer of the two books would be more to her liking!
Enjoy your Saturday; mine was suddenly freed up, so I have no idea what the day has in store for me. I'll probably spend most of the day on the Castles In The Sky chat loop; they are having an all day publisher chat. Join the group and get valuable inside advice!
