Getting Back To Work...Maybe...
The TV is already sporting the ticker for tomorrow's closings. So far, our school's not on it. But if the kids are snowed in again, I'll be baking cookies and trying to keep the house warm! Yup; another snow day. Which again means limited access for me. I'm hoping to be able to at least get chapters 3 and 4 edited before they start fussing! W, on the other hand, is thrilled because of this unexpected 'holiday', especially being so close to the regular holiday break! Myself, I'll be blogging about this topic next week. Hint: I'm having a WTH...moment.

Book Lover at Heart
It's been my experience readers fall into two categories. Those who reread and those who don't.
The non-rereaders aren't fully committed to the act of reading; they may have been forced to read as children, and never developed the love of the story. Others simply have better things to do and see nothing wrong with reading a chapter here and there.
Rereaders, on the other hand, find themselves emotionally involved with their fictional friends, and keep returning to lose themselves in the HEA or alternate universe and escape reality for a while.
I'm a rereader. And being one comes with a strange side effect: If I let you borrow one of my books, I expect it back. But if I borrow one of yours, I'll purchase it for myself asap. Or in the case of my parents, once the book is in my hands, they aren't likely to see it on their shelves ever again.
Case in Point: Dad's copies of James Michenor's Hawaii and Centennial. I 'borrowed' those books twenty years ago. Centennial I actually did give back, only to borrow it three more times. Dad finally said I could keep it:)
When I had my car accident in 2000, another friend brought over a box of books. Within days, I was hooked on James Patterson and a few Dean Koontz titles. Before I returned the box, I wrote down every single title of the books I'd particularly enjoyed, and as soon as I could, went out and purchased them.
I mentioned this on Anny's blog yesterday; my dream room is the Disney's Beauty and the Beast library. I could happily spend days or weeks in that room, especially if Mrs. Potts and Chip provided me with plenty of food and iced tea, lol:)
I had 9 bookcases in my first house, all double-stacked with hardbacks and paperbacks. Now, I'm reduced to keeping them all in boxes, and in storage. We moved to our current home in the fall of '06 and I believe in the next eighteen months, read my way through a dozen or so boxes left by my MIL and salvaged from my grandmother's attic.
I grew up watching my parents read; I had three sets of grandparents who were also willing to read to my sister and I. My two older children love to read, although a strict accellerated reading program and the fact I ended up working full time for three months nearly destroyed K's love of reading. And W loves to be read to; however, with this lingering sinus infection, I can't read out loud for too long and prefer the shortest books possible. So that 'job' often falls to his siblings.
So with all of my books, which ones had the privelege of being in my bedroom? The top shelf was my entire Dana Fuller Ross's Wagons West series. I am only missing the final book in the saga. The middle shelf held Michenor, John Jakes, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Michael Palmer, and a few Robin Cook. Nora Roberts and Lavyrle Spencer had the honor of being in the living room. Danielle Steele took up one complete shelf, front and back, in my office. Jude Devereaux had the shelf below her.
I started to inventory my books, but once I reached the 750 count, with still three bookshelves to go, I accidently left the disc in the computer overnight and experienced one of my many file crashes. I still have the loose-leaf pages somwhere, but it's not complete. Which means starting over if I am ever lucky enough to be able to display them again.
So what about you? Do you reread books until they are tattered, or does your collection look pristine? My copy of Little Women is missing both the front and back cover. North And South is held together with duct tape on the spine. Cherry Ames: Student Nurse is missing the first four pages of chapter one AND the front cover. And more recently, my dictionary, the one I received in 1984 as a college present, is in danger of losing some pages. But never fear; I know there's duct tape in this house!
Today has been declared a SNOW DAY...we're expecting five inches by noon, so the kids are sleeping late. If I'm not around this afternoon, blame the kids for kicking me off the computer. I'll be watching L&O downstairs:)

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder...
Currently Reading: I'm up to Chapter 4 on Lone Star Lycan:) So far I'm enjoying how the characters are 'getting to know' each other:)
Print book: The Shack, by Wm Paul Young.
The ladies of the Grip are talking about beauty this week, and I thought I'd chime in on the subject.
It's no secret that I was definitely an ugly duckling. I had glasses at age 5, buck teeth, braces on my teeth from age twelve until fourteen; underweight until I began having kids. Toss in the fact I was painfully shy and you've got a recipe for disaster.
Last night at our weekly writer's meeting, the reality show 'In The Dark' was brought up, and how the women seemed to really like the men they were paired with....until the lights came on and they saw what they looked like. The comment was also made that men seemed to be more tolerant of the women's looks than the other way around.
I somewhat agree with this. I made friends with popular boys throughout high school and college, but had trouble getting them to see me as Female, rather than 'one of the guys'. In fact, one of my best friends paid me a high compliment which totally flabbergasted me our senior year.
A cheerleader and I were walking down the hall toward B's locker. His buddy J was with him, and whistled. The cheerleader tossed her hair and giggled. "Thanks J!"
"I wasn't whistling at you; I was whistling at Molly."
"Yeah, L, so don't go thinking the world revolves around you," B retorted, slamming his locker. He and I turned and walked away.
As soon as we had turned the corner, I mentioned I'd thought J had been whistling at the other girl. B stopped in his tracks and faced me, hands on his hips.
'You've got to be kidding! You're one of the most beautiful girls I've known. Don't sell yourself short." He then held open the doors which led to the cafeteria area and told me he'd see me after class.
Maybe it was a poor self-image; maybe I'd been carrying around my childhood teasing too long. But after having attending both HS reunions this past year and reconnecting with my old friends, both male and female, we couldn't help but laugh at the stupid assumptions we'd made while growing up. For instance, when we square-danced in PE, sometimes the teacher would have us girls stand in in the squares and let the boys choose who to partner. Likewise, sometimes the boys waited to see which girl would choose them. I always ended up in the square with the less-attractive boys, the ones I didn't even want to speak to, much less hold their hand while dancing! Why? Because I didn't feel 'worthy' to choose the more attractive boy. In my mind, Ugly Betty didn't dare dance with Ken. Only Barbie deserved to dance with Ken. When I finally confessed an 8th grade crush, he said he'd had no idea; he always enjoyed my company in class and remembered he and I had danced well together, the one time we'd been lucky enough to have been paired.
Teenagers....we all think the world revolves around us. (eye roll)
Now as an adult, I have friends all across the 'beauty' spectrum. I've also tried to instill in my kids to look at the inner beauty of a person, and both teens are learning that sometimes the most beautiful exterior hides an ugly, unhappy interior.
Reminder: Interview is still up on http://mlmya.blogspot.com/ We've segued from Harrison Ford to the temperature in the comment 'discussion':)
Update on Teacher's Pet: I discovered I was editing the wrong manuscript. I need to print out both versions and pick the one I like best!
Plus, we're supposed to get 4-7" of SNOW tomorrow. Time to check the essentials and make a quick trip to the store tomorrow. Plenty of eggs, milk, and bread, thank god! Just need some cookie dough ingredients...butter and chocolate chips:) Time to warm up the kitchen if the kids are gonna be snowed in.
Update on SU: He's doing much better; his chest had gotten out of alignment (when they wired him back together after the heart surgery, the bones didn't quite 'knit', so every once in a while he 'crunches' himself back together) and once everything was 'moved back into place', he started feeling a LOT better! Which is a good thing; his cardiologist is two hours away!

So Today's Tuesday...Where's Your Guest?
Terrific Tuesdays will start next week, I promise:)
Here's the January Interview Schedule:
12th-Lisabet Sarai
19th- Carol Preflatish
26th- Amber Skyze
I'd planned to interview Kenzie today, but my husband's heart decided to get out of rhythm and I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night. I'll squeeze her in at a later date.
Yesterday I provided the wrong link to my MLM interview; here is the right one
http://mlmya.blogspot.com/ and it will be up all week. Pop over and say hi, will you please?
Also still taking names of authors who've been 'Kindle-ized'. I sent her several yesterday, and she thanked me last night. She's getting her Kindle today, so hopefully some of you will see a slight spike in sales:) My books are on amazon, but not on the Kindle. Hmmm...maybe I should investigate that option.
Have a good day:)

Back To Work
Currently Reading: Finally finished Handle With Care:) Loved this one, though I was disappointed in the ending, and am looking forward to her next one. I also finished Sandra Cox's Makita, and found myself in happy tears at the end. I love her Cats of Catarou series, and so does my daughter S. Makita is a definite Recommended Read! Next up: Chapter 2 and rest of Regina's Lone Star Lycan:)
Important! Need to know which of my fellow blogmates have their books in Kindle version! HS friend has ordered a Kindle and wants Recommended Authors from me! Barb's the only one I could think of this morning. So please chime in with any titles available on Kindle and I'll pass them on to her:)
Took the family to our favorite Chinese buffet after Church yesterday and this is what my fortune said:
'Tomorrow your creative side will shine forth with exceptional ideas'.
Always encouraging to know, given that as soon as the morning chores/errands/etc. are over, I plan to sit down and finally tackle Chapter Six of Teacher's Pet, and rewrite some of the wrong legal details! I also plan to bite the bullet and send out book #3 of the Arbor U series, Forbidden Love. Don't know if I'll actually get it sent off today or if I'll simply reread it, checking for POV errors. At any rate, it's been over a year since Amy's story was published, and now Keri's demanding her turn.
And speacking of my Arbor U girls, check out the Moonlight Lace Mayhem blog: I'm being interviewed over there today. Stop by and say hi, please?
Oops...sent you to the wrong link. Here it is: http://mlmya.blogspot.com/
Sorry about that!

Not Off To A Good Start...
All was quiet in the house. The SU was watching TV; the younger kids were playing in the basement. All of a sudden, the sound of shrieks and little feet pounding up the stairs.
"Aunt Molly! Fire! W and J set the trash can on fire!"
We raced downstairs. The SU grabbed the garden hose, turned on the water, and put out the tiny fire blazing in the trash can where I empty the lint filter from the dryer. I opened the back door and took the soaked trash can, the contents now black and smoking, outside. The boys humbly handed over the book of matches they'd found, and showed us where they had found it. A forgotten Red Cross Emergency tackle box, which had sat on the shelf for who knows how long, and assumed empty from the feel of it three years ago when we moved in. Apparently the boys had gotten it down and decided to use it in their camping play. It's still unclear who struck the first match, but at least no one was hurt; Miss Drama Queen tattled at the right time; and now the boys definitely know why you don't play with matches!
Two hours after that excitement was over, I discovered the water heater was leaking. I guess I know what we'll be getting with our tax money this year...
Can I have a do-over?

Happy New Year!
First of all, baby Shaant (hereafter known as Shaun) officially turned one day old as I was holding him last night:) Sam and baby are doing well, and the shock is beginning to wear off for Anthony. I saw pictures of him earlier and he had that deer-caught-in-the-headlights-look about him.
I think he likes his Aunt Molly; he was cooing at me in this pic! When I first picked him up, he objected to being snuggled against my chest. He quieted once I cradled him, so I think we're going to get along fine:)
Resolutions Kept...Or Not...
Professional:
-To finally join my fellow authors in being e-pubbed Yes!
-To publish #3 in my series, Forbidden Love No...
-To not be so obsessive about my blog posting. Yes!
-Attend 3 conferences this year. I may not make it to RT, but there is still Lori Foster's, Midwest Writer's, and the EC Romanticon. No...didn't even make it one!
-Set up at the 3 craft fairs I missed last year, and do as many as the others as I possibly can Not possible, due to K's football schedule
-Set up signings in other towns' bookstores, now that the gas prices are down. Sort of...we'll call this one inconclusive; I did set up at one in another county!
-Finish a couple of wips before beginning any new ones Again, inconclusive. I finished one wip, but also began another project and finished it.
Personal:
-Walk more. June '07 I was walking 4 miles a day...and promptly discovered reruns of Dawson's Creek, which quit after Labor Day. I never did resume that habit, although I walked twice a week during April and May with the Head Start moms. Why did I not keep at it? Sheer laziness. No; started off with good intentions, but a pain in my foot revealed arthritis and then I caught bronchitis. Motivation sort of shut down.
-Mantain current size or drop one. I do not wish to expand, so the eating habits will change slightly. Yes:) Maintained current size.
-I have a major battle ahead of me, as a family member is in need of intervention. This came to my attention back in October, and as soon as a meeting is called, it will take a great deal of courage and inner strength to stand my ground with this loved one. More on this at a later date; I'll be asking for prayers! Yes! Problem seems to have resolved itself:)
-Dakota challenged us last year to do something nice for ourselves. I finally had my hair done and my eyes checked; this year it will be a trip to the dentist and my doctor. My pre-menopausal symptoms have gotten worse this year, and I need to consult with the doctor who's known me for the past 17 years. No; blew this one. I did get my hair cut twice this year, but failed to visit the dentist or my 'real' doctor.
So I've decided to post goals instead:
-Continue to write and submit
-Attend at least ONE professional conference next year, hopefully RomantiCon
-Do as many signings as I can
-Get back into the walking habit and maintain current size or drop a few pounds.
Ch-ch-changes....
Beginning this month, I'm going to host Terrific Tuesdays With....and will interview authors or host guest bloggers. I've had so many requests, I'm booked through July, so if you've not been contacted, or know you have a release next summer, email me at storimom2@aol.com and I'll get you scheduled.
More pictures are ahead, as my oldest goes through his Eagle Scout Ceremony and Graduation. And yes, when we pack him off to Purdue, expect some weepy Mom Moments...
Fridays are going to be Flashback Fridays, where we can share memories of years past. Saturdays will still be the Stupid Sayings, as well as the occassional Snippet, now that I know how to copy and paste to blogger again! (Aren't you proud of me??? Now if I could just figure out how to post the videos!) And I'll probably take Sundays off again. And since I'm getting long-winded, I'll post the January Reading/Buying schedule tomorrow.
Kenzie's Korner
Now that Kenzie has a contract, she'll be blogging here and there about her editing progress, so be sure to watch her blog at least once a week. I'll be sure to post the link whenever anything exciting happens, such as the cover or release date!
So Happy New Year! May 2010 be a productive one for everyone:)
