Ode To My Valentine

Since coming across my notebook of poems last year, I thought I'd post a poem I wrote in 1997.  Enjoy:)

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Sugar is sweet
And so are you

After the tax check arrives
Let's plan a nice meal
Steaks, wine, and me....
What a hell of a deal!

I don't need flowers or jewelry
To know you love me
I see what you've fixed
To know you're the world to me.

For my part I could do better
And not be such a bitch
Until the weather improves
And we'll find our niche

In the meantime
We patiently wait
Happy Valentine's Day....
Later we'll have our date.
(Feb 13, 1997)

(Bad, yes; but this came a year after he announced he was thinking of leaving me.  Obviously, we worked through our differences!  And after the tax check arrived, he took me to St. Elmo's restaurant, a fancy place downtown Indianapolis, where the steaks melted in your mouth!  I would LOVE to go back someday!)
