Authors Behaving Badly

Acting like divas.

Thinking 'oh, I'm published...I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread'.

Bad-mouthing others all over the internet.

Telling someone a confidence and two days later seeing your words splashed all over the internet.

Whatever happened to common courtesy?

Not naming names here, but I've learned a past acquaintance is up to his/her old tricks. I'm actually saddened by this; apparently the fact s/he's lost friends hasn't deterred this person from changing for the better. If you're going to bash others, be prepared for a backlash. Don't be stunned if someone has the nerve to criticize you back.

In fact, let's try something radical. If someone criticizes you or your work, by all means, go off in a corner and have a good cry. But instead of retaliation, laugh it off. Don't sink to their level. It only makes you look small and insecure.

And who wants to buy books from a selfish author? I'd rather buy from a friendly author, one who admits his or her mistakes, rather than being vindictive about past wrongs.

Think about it.

Oh I so agree! Great post. A reminder that we should all treat one another with kindness. You never know when you might need someone in the future.

Or someone might need you...how many people can swallow their pride and ask for forgiveness, all because now they've discovered they 'need' you more than they thought, whether simply for friendship or professional support/advice/have to work together?

Ooh well done! And it's about time someone said it. Thank you, Molly.

Authors bashing other authors? Why would we do that to each other? Even if you look at it from a purely selfish point of view, it seems so counterproductive.

I've unfortunately seen it happen before. Fortunately, it's not a super-common occurrence. Most of the writers I've met are nice and willing to help out others.

Hi Tymber...I mean Lesli...I mean...oh you know what I mean. :)

Anyway, GREAT blog post and I love that you still say that Reluctant Dom was one of the one's you were most nervous about. Seeing as that's one of my all time favorites!

Thanks for the excerpt too...*fans self*...nicely done!
