The Series That Shall Not Be Named Pt 2

Currently Reading:  Enjoyed The Price Of Freedom; clever story!  Now onto What She Wants by Anne Rainey.

Welcome back to another exciting installment of TSTSNBN.  This covers Chapters 3-4.

I know I covered this last week, but it bears repeating:  Even respectable business men give hickeys!  And what I don't get is how she didn't feel the suction.

A few pages later, she asks an innocent question, one that makes him get lost in thought.  Instead of probing further, she changes the subject, thinking it's 'something painful' and doesn't want to remind him of it.  But two pages earlier, she recalls the psychiatrist's words.  Wouldn't she want to probe a little, to speed the healing?  Or maybe I'm just the 'probing' type, lol....figuratively speaking, of course!

Eeeeuuuuu....'the fuller the bladder, the more intense the orgasm'?  I don't want to lose control and pee all over the bed.  This just sounds wrong.  And why is she continually 'amazed' by the knowledge of 'Mr. Sexpert'?  He's had YEARS of experience, while you only have a few months, idiot!

Pg 53 pulled me out of the story, since I found this hard to imagine.  She's 'strolling arm in arm' with C, but yet her hand is tucked into the back pocket of his shorts.  If that's the case, then she's either got two left hands, or she's more tucked under his arm.  'Arm in arm' indicates the elbows are linked, with each person's hand crooked back toward their own bodies.  Try it.  The author needs to either use dolls to try out her walking positions or actually TRY this with another person.

Pg 55:  She again makes an innocent observation, but when he stares at her, she wonders if she's overstepped her boundaries?  Again, see above paragraph #3....

Ch. 4:
She goes to his office to seek permission to leave the boat and go shopping.  C is on the phone, but asks his caller to hold.  She feels like she's in the principal's office, rather than a grown woman making an honest request?    Oh wait....the previous day he used handcuffs on her during sex....this is why she feels like a sub or something?  Why does this have any bearing on her request?  Oh yeah.....she's inexperienced, insecure, and married him too fast, w/o thinking through the whole control issue.....and oh yeah, she shouldn't have to worry about whether or not she can kiss him goodbye!  That ring on your finger gives the right, dumbell!

I applaud her for her single act of rebellion, heh heh.....

Yes, you have 3 people with you, for protection!  Did you forget already there is someone trying to kill you?  Or hold you for ransom?

She returns after shopping and discovers the jig is up; C knows she took the Jet Ski.  And her response is 'what the hell was I thinking?'.  If you're going to rebel, you don't care about the consequences.  A more apt response would be to lift your chin and say 'oh well!'  Maybe he'll use the handcuffs on you again....or the flogger.  You seem to like that....

Later, during foreplay, he looks down at her and she's alarmed?  Why?  Is she worried about him making her beg for her pleasure?  Thank goodness all goes well....

Later, she's chatting with her friend, who makes a snarky remark.  She shuts down the chat so C won't see it?  I'm rolling my eyes....if you don't want your friends making snarky remarks, then either don't tell your friends about your sex life, or leave incriminating paperwork laying around where they can find it.

*******
I had to stop reading at this point, and read something more enjoyable.  Come back next week for another witty snarky assessment of Chapters 5-7.  And have a great day:)

Tomorrow:
The events of October 1983.  Band competitions and my Halloween costume:)

HDH #24

Today's snippet is from the current wip.  This is the next day, Kayla coming down from the initial shock of the breakup.

Kayla closed the laptop, then pulled on a pair of clean jeans and a comfortable shirt while she waited for her coffee to finish brewing.  Normally, Hunter would be arriving by now, and we’d have time for a quickie before breakfast.  Tears threatened, but she blinked them away.  I just bought that new package of danish; I guess it’ll last longer now.  She pulled one out of the carton and removed the wrapping.  Placing it on a napkin, she set it in the microwave to warm while she got her coffee cup out of the cabinet and poured a steaming amount into it.
Nothing like that first cup of coffee to get you going.  With a pang, she remembered Hunter’s favorite comment every morning.  It’s true; I always close my eyes as I’m taking that first taste.  Oh Hunter, how long before I get you out of my head?  Kayla heard the beep of the microwave timer and set down her mug to retrieve her favorite pastry.  I didn’t realize my house was so quiet without him.  Normally they would discuss their plans for the day, and share humorous memes on Face Book.  I’m not even in the mood to update my status, or to even see his.  I don’t think I could bear changing my relationship status yet.  I’ll do it later.

*********
The words are flowing in small spurts, but at least I'm not staring at the blank page trying to yank them out of my head.  That's progress:)

Ready for another question?
Are there any subjects you want to write about, but don't?

Don't hate me; I would love to explore both sides of the infidelity issue.  Is it all just about one person trying to have their cake and eat it too?  Trying to pull one over on their spouse?  Boredom?  Just can't keep their pecker in their pants/legs together?  Or does it go deeper; marrying too young/too fast/settling instead of looking for their soul mate?  Why not just divorce?  Does religion play a part?  Or an unwillingness to become a statistic?  I know; that last one's a stretch.  Is it all about trying to break up a family, or is it just about keeping sane in an unhappy marriage?  That last one is what I heard from a close friend.  He argued it was a 'victimless crime', but I disagreed.  Someone will always love more, and be hurt when it's over.  I think that's why he hasn't spoken to me about his indiscretions anymore....Anyway, I've got an MS nearly finished on this subject, but if I ever get the courage to publish it, it may have to be self-pubbed.  I don't think either of my publishers would want to touch it.

Monday Catch Up

Currently Reading:  Loved, loved, LOVED both Motor City Fae and MC Witch:)  Somebody slap me the next time I don't immediately pick up a Cindy Spencer Pape book....when will I learn?  I read MC Wolf last year or so, and enjoyed it, so decided to buy the 1st two.  WOW!  I can't say enough good things about this series.  I'm going to find MC Wolf and reread it, then hunting up the final book for next month.  Then I'll move on to The Price of Freedom by Jenny Scwartz.

First of all, it's my sister's birthday....
Happy Birthday Wendy!!!!  I love and miss you!

Yes, it's Monday again.  Spent most of the weekend curled up with the Kindle and napping, since it rained.  Woke up yesterday in time to fix dinner, then watched 60 Minutes (my hubby is one of the many who is honestly qualified for disability; he can't see!  Two doctors confirmed he wouldn't pass any eye tests!), Amazing Race (see rant below), and Good Wife.

Amazing Race:  Why does competition bring out the worst in people?  OMG Marie...do us all a favor and SHUT UP.  I heard one team call you 'Pinky and the Brain'.  Wonder if it will stick for the rest of the show?

Team Bingo:  Never, ever think you have an 'edge' on someone w/o double and triple-checking.  Thankfully, your bus arrived only a half hour behind the others, but you obviously didn't read the clue thoroughly.  Next time a native tells you you have the wrong info, listen to him?  I figured you'd get docked; thankfully they guys at the check-in told you you had the wrong cart!  This is why you were eliminated.  Too many mistakes on the same leg.

Team B-Ball Wives:  Give up on Marie giving you the other Express Pass.  She's too selfish and it would serve her right to get be eliminated with both of them still in her possession.

Team Hippie-Dudes:  Congrats for a great leg!  Glad you kept your heads in this one:)

Karaoke Update:
Edge of 17:  Did well, only flubbed up in one place.  Then another girl sang it an hour later, but everyone at my table said mine was just as good:)

Escape:  I knew, going into this one, it would be a one-shot-wonder.  Waaay too low, but I've always loved this song, and people sang along on the chorus:)

Everlasting Love:  I obviously hadn't practiced the Gloria Estefan version; I screwed up the ending.  Wonder if Mark has the Rex Smith version I could sing in my sleep?

Come Sail Away:  Friend J-Boo requested this, since she's moving out of town this week.  Rocked the bar with this one!  Everyone sang along:)  So went out on a high note!

Flashback Friday

October 1973
I decided to go as Miss America.  Mom let me borrow a black wig and she made up my face with bright red lipstick, rouge, and eye shadow.  It was chilly, so I wore jeans and a black turtleneck sweater under one of Mom's white nightgowns, and wore a necklace, bracelets, and even clip on earrings.  My sister was a bunny rabbit:)

We also watched the Sonny and Cher show; I wasn't allowed to watch The Carol Burnett Show because it came on at 10pm on Saturday, and I had to be up by 8am the next day for church.  We watched All In The Family and Little House on the Prairie (my dad called it 'Little Horse', since that's the first thing you saw in the opening credits!).  We even watched Mary Tyler Moore, though I think I spent most evenings in my room reading or listening to music.  I loved The Carpenters, Elton John, and Cher.  I also remember catching some Happy Days episodes, though not faithfully watching until later seasons.

********
Present Day:
It's Homecoming weekend, so the youngling doesn't have school.  We'll go to the parade this afternoon (weather permitting), and I think I'm making tacos for dinner.

Tomorrow, I think I'm off to the Daviess' county festival.  The spouse and I are still discussing it.  If I can go, I need to check through my promo items, to see what I need to rush order.

Tomorrow Night's Karaoke Songs:
Edge of 17-Stevie Nicks
Endless Love-Lionel Richie/Diana Ross
Escape-Rupert Holmes
Everlasting Love-Gloria Estefan

Have a great weekend!

Third Book In The Series That Shall Not Be Named (TBITSTSNBN)

Currently Reading:  Really enjoyed Deadly Obsession!!  Recommended Read:)  Now diving into Eden's Sin and already enjoying it.  I'm up to Ch. 5.

Good morning!  And welcome back to the final series of blog posts about our favorite series That Series by That Author who 1) is badly in need of a good editor; 2) brought erotic romance into the mainstream focus; 3) helped Kenzie double her sales of Teacher's Pet; and 4) we all have a love/hate relationship with and plan to watch the movie when it arrives in DVD form, to see if the script is as badly written as the book or if Hollywood improved on it!

As previously stated, I'm not going to point out every little error; I'm sure you all by now know she uses certain words waaaay too often and A either has eyes in the back of her head or has the ability to judge her own emotions/appearance w/o the use of a mirror.  I plan to focus primarily on the plot this time, so these posts might be considerably shorter than last year's.

Anyway, here we go:)

Prologue:
Oh be still my heart!  Christian's POV at last?  (Insert sarcasm)

Ch. 1:
Either A is more adventurous now that she's married, or her repressed sexuality has reared its head in a big way.  1) Would a sheltered virginal girl suddenly cast all propriety aside on her honeymoon and go topless on a public beach?  Granted, some of this may simply be rebellion.  And yes, I can see where a newlywed could get 'caught up in the moment' and forget they're in public while making out.

Ch 2:
Why is she shy moving around the privacy in their room while naked, but was comfortable taking off her top at a topless beach?  And she's appalled by the hickeys on her chest?  (yes, I read the first part of Ch 3 to understand the 'what has he done to me?' comment.)  Even 'respectable' men can give hickeys, idiot.

Several passages are in flashbacks, and I don't understand A's reaction to an innocent 'prenup' comment read aloud from a gossip column.  She says the 'thought never crossed her mind', so why is she so uncomfortable, when C shakes head head and says there will be none?  Or do I need to leave this one alone?

Resuming My Unanswered Interview Questions....
How long does it take you to write a sex scene? Why do you think this is?

It all depends on how deeply involved I am in the story.  If I've got the world blocked out and the words are flowing, I'll have it knocked out in a matter of minutes.  If the words have to be yanked from my brain screaming and kicking, it may take a little longer.

Case in point:  In my latest wip, I wrote a sex scene in an hour.  But last July, when I had to add one to Love Weighs In,I first had to go back and reread some of my favorite sex scenes in both my books and others, to 'get in the mood'.  Jamie and Susan were still in the foreplay stage, so I had to make it believable, and put myself back into that pre-sex mindset.

Come back tomorrow for another installment of my 2nd grade self and Halloween:)

HDH #23

As always, for more Hump Day Hook fun, go here:)

Last week, I gave you Kayla's POV in the new wip; today, here's Hunter's.  Enjoy!

Could he do this?  Was his career so important to him, to take another woman into his bed with whom he felt nothing more than physical pleasure?  There had been no emotional connection in any of the three times they’d been together today.  He respected her business finesse, the way she looked on his arm, the way she sought her pleasure with abandon.  Did he want to do this, strictly for the promotion and success he craved?  Was being a Vice-President so important?  Or was he happy in his current position?

Hunter wrapped the condom in toilet paper and flushed it, then splashed cold water on his face.  You’re thirty-six years old and still kow-towing to the Old Man’s line about work equaling success.  I’m not going to turn out like him, staying with Mom out of obligation while having fun on the side.  I’m not like that!  Why can’t I have happiness with the girl I love?

Because you fell for an artist who cares more about creating beautiful things instead of working her way up the corporate ladder.

******
Did you check out yesterday's reading schedule for the month?  If you wonder how I find the time to read, I try to read a chapter in the afternoon, and another before bedtime.  And since the daughter and I are sharing my Kindle (someone said 84 days til Christmas?), I'm doing the majority of my reading on the Kindle app on my computer.

Come back tomorrow for the first critique post of The Third Book In The Series Which Shall Not Be Named (TTBITSWSNBN).

Writing Goals For The Month:
I'm hoping to average 1K per day on the new wip, and hopefully finish it by the end of the month.  I'm also editing a friend's book, and have at least one more promo opp this month.  I can't do our Fall Festival, since I've been roped into manning the Choir booth at our 2nd annual Feast of Booths, something the Catholic Churches in town dreamed up, hoping to entice members to be more proactive/involved in the church.

I also hope to attend the NaNo kickoff Meet-n-Greet again this year, w/o pissing off the spouse like last year.

October Karaoke Songs:
